A lone orca makes a dire miscalculation and swims too far under an ice shelf, only to find no end to the ice in sight. Desperate for air, it attempts to break through the ice by repeatedly slamming its head and body against it. Seeing the ice begin to crack, it tries harder, forcing more energy into each charge. The ice, however, is more than a meter thick and has no intentions of allowing this orca its freedom.
As lethal levels of carbon dioxide begin to build up in its body, and its lungs scream for air, it tries one last desperate attempt. The impact sends the last of its depleted oxygen out of its lungs, involuntarily initiating the breathing reflex.......But there is no air. They say drowning is a peaceful way to die. That random situation popped up in my head and I had to draw it. Must say, I'm quite proud of that there orca! I really like the way it turned out. The ice was....Hard. Can you tell I love drawing scratches/cuts/rakes now? LOL! I can't help it. They're just fun! |

To be honest, this surprised me... Never would have thought you'd draw something quite like this.
Nice quality of light in this. Very haunting.
The lighting is amazing, and the orcas expression is so... I can't even describe it... sad, haunting and beautiful all in one macabre image. That, added with the story, just make this oh-so-freaking cool. I love how you can see the motion in the pecs and fluke.
Have I said this is amazing yet?
Random note; did you hear about Keiko getting stuck under the ice?
He was out on one of his 'walks' and swam into a ice covered bay and had to break through the ice like three times to get back to the boat... the poor guys head was all cut up.

Regarding Keiko, I did hear about that. I seen the pictureof his head, poor lil' guy. Infact, when thinking up this 'story', he did pop into my mind making me think that it was actually possible for this to happen...Which made me wanna draw it more.
